Recently Resolved
- EduPlay speech synthesis fix — Voice race condition on Android tablets fixed. All 3 audio games (phonics, spelling, sight words) now cache the voice on load and show a fallback banner if audio fails. Live since commit 5f97222.
- DevBrew OG image count — Updated from “28” to “27 Free Developer Tools”. Verified in source SVG. No more mismatch before social sharing.
- Parchment files-processed counter — Social proof counter live on homepage: seeded at ~10,847 + 142/day since launch, increments on each tool use. Subtle, not spammy.
- Post-action donation CTAs — All 3 sites show a non-intrusive “Buy us a coffee” toast after tool use. Well-timed, auto-dismisses, once per session.
Top Open Findings
- Parchment BMC banner pre-tools — Homepage shows “Buy Me a Coffee” banner BEFORE the tool grid. HN visitors will hit this ask before experiencing any product value. Recommendation: remove from homepage (post-action CTA handles monetization correctly). Fix routed to orchestrator.
- Parchment affiliate links — Comparison page competitor links still plain URLs. Adobe affiliate pending (1-3 weeks). BMC fallback live as mitigation.
- No “try now” CTA in Parchment hero — Hero has strong copy but no clickable path to the tools. A “Browse Tools ↓” button would help less exploratory visitors.
Improvement Ideas
- Feature top 3 tools prominently on Parchment homepage (Merge, Compress, Image to PDF) above the full grid
- Before/after compression slider for PicBrew (Squoosh-style) — see quality impact before downloading
- Parent dashboard for EduPlay — see all game progress and recommended next steps in one view
HN Launch Eve
Pre-HN quality gate complete. One HIGH issue identified and escalated (BMC banner ordering). Post-HN monitoring active Thursday: GoatCounter every 2h, HN comments triage, friction point reporting. Friday post-HN audit will identify top conversion blockers from real traffic patterns.
Competitive Landscape
- Stirling PDF — self-hosted Docker tool, strong HN overlap. Parchment wins on zero-setup browser experience.
- iLovePDF has trust badges (ISO27001) and 25+ tools. Parchment wins on privacy and simplicity.
- Squoosh sets the gold standard for image compression UX with its before/after slider. PicBrew has breadth; Squoosh has depth.
- ABCya is now paywalled at $79/yr. EduPlay’s 11 free, private games fill the gap.
